Etan P. Sugarman, M.D., FAAOS

Dr. Etan Sugarman is an orthopaedic surgeon specialization in Hip Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine and Joint Preservation. He graduated with honors from New York University and was inducted into the prestigious American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) after graduating at the top of his residency class in orthopaedic surgery. He then completed fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine surgery at the world-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic and additional advanced training in hip arthroscopy, preservation and reconstruction with Dr. Benjamin Domb, founder of the American Hip Institute. After nearly a decade serving as clinical and educational faculty at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, Dr. Sugarman chose to join the American Hip Institute. 

Dr. Sugarman is the Director of Joint Preservation at the American Hip Institute, the first clinic in the nation dedicated to elite treatment of hip problems. Dr. Sugarman has extensive experience in the treatment of hip, shoulder and knee disorders including minimally invasive, reconstructive, and advanced restoration surgeries. Dr. Sugarman is the inventor of cutting edge techniques in the hip and shoulder and teaches advanced joint preservation techniques to surgeons from around the world. 

Dr. Sugarman has cared for the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Sparks, USC football, MLS soccer, as well as Olympic and elite level athletes. An avid surfer, skier, violinist and former competitive basketball player, Dr. Sugarman understands that each individual and athlete is different, and a successful return to sport and function requires consideration not only of the injury but of the entire athlete - the risk factors that predispose them to recurrence, as well as their specific timeline and personal goals. With more than 100 publications and presentations, and multiple best author awards, Dr. Sugarman is dedicated to providing the most up to date and best proven treatment methods for his patients from across the country who travel to the American Hip Institute for their treatment.
