Dr. Ben Kuhns, born and raised near Chicago, Illinois, earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in history from Colgate University and a master’s in neuroscience from Northwestern University. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University, graduating with distinction in research and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, where he first developed his interest in hip preservation.

He completed orthopedic residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center, receiving the Kenneth Dehaven Research Award for work linking femoroacetabular impingement to hip osteoarthritis. Dr. Kuhns then pursued fellowship training in adult hip preservation and reconstruction at the Steadman Clinic under Drs. Philippon and Matta, followed by advanced hip preservation training at the American Hip Institute. He has authored over 40 articles and book chapters on hip dysfunction.

Dr. Kuhns focuses on the comprehensive care of adult hip pain, from non-operative strategies—like hip-specific physical therapy, medications, and injections—to advanced surgical techniques including complex hip arthroscopy, open hip preservation, osteotomies, and robotic anterior approach total hip arthroplasty. He works closely with patients to create personalized treatment plans aimed at restoring function and returning them to the activities they enjoy.
